Spring Break Advisory:
Texas DPS and State Department Warn Against Spring Break Travel to Mexico
Posted: March 8, 2012
Students and faculty at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College will be on Spring Break from Monday, March 12 to Saturday, March 17. The campus will be open for business.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has issued a new warning urging all Texans and out of state visitors to avoid traveling to Mexico during Spring Break.
The U.S. Department of State continues to implement a travel warning issued in February asking Americans to defer travel to several Mexican states because of continued drug cartel carjackings, robberies and other violence.
The university’s top objective is to ensure the safety of the campus community. University leaders continue to meet to study plans to keep the campus safe and continue to work with local, county and federal law enforcement agencies to monitor conditions. The university has a safety and security webpage with the latest local, state and national statistics and information.
Have a safe Spring Break.
