Admission Deadline Extended for RN-BSN Online Program

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS –NOVEMBER 20, 2012 – The College of Nursing at The University of Texas at Brownsville has extended the admission deadline for the RN to BSN online program in spring 2013 semester until Dec. 9.College of Nursing at The University of Texas at Brownsville

The program encourages registered nurses to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing totally online in two semesters.

“UTB is responding to an intensifying nationwide push for RNs to earn their credentials through a bachelor’s degree program that prepares them to meet the needs of this challenging profession,” said Dr. Edna Garza-Escobedo, Interim Dean Senior Lecturer and Professor Emeritus in the College of Nursing. “We encourage students to come in and visit with us.”

While nationally about half of registered nurses hold a bachelor’s degree, that number is only 27 percent in Cameron County. The Institute of Medicine and The American Nurses Association supports initiatives to raise this number to 80 percent to meet increasingly stringent national health care demands.

The RN-BSN online program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing, the National League of Nursing and is endorsed by the American Holistic Nurse Certification Corporation.  The program also provides a pathway for students to continue their studies and pursue a master’s degree in nursing, also delivered online.
