2011 President's Cup (the Final Four)
April 1-3, Herndon, VA.

The UTB/TSC Chess Program competed in the 2011 President’s Cup, the “Final Four of College Chess” on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 at technology and consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton in Herndon, Va.
Representing UTB/TSC were:
- #1 Board: GM Timur Gareyev, USCF Rating 2696
- #3 Board: GM Mauricio Flores, USCF 2632
- #2 Board: GM Axel Bachmann, USCF 2614
- #4 Board: IM Max Cornejo, USCF 2506
In the first round on Saturday, April 2, Texas Tech University defeated UTB/TSC 2.5 to 1.5. UTB/TSC came back to defeat the University of Maryland, Baltimore County 2.5 to 1.5 in the day’s second round.
On Sunday, April 3, UTB/TSC drew their third round match with The University of Texas at Dallas 2-2.
Texas Tech defeated UMBC 2.5 to 1.5 in the third round.
With the victory, Texas Tech won its first President’s Cup. Texas Tech finished the tournament with 7 points. UT-Dallas had 6.5 points and finished second. UTB/TSC had 6 points and finished third. UMBC placed fourth with 4.5 points.
