UTB "A" Team Wins Third Round and "B" Team yields After a Tough Fight
FORT WORTH, TEXAS - December 28, 2011 - In Round 3 of the Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championships, the UTB chess teams faced strong and undefeated opponents.
UTB “A” Team defeated the UT Dallas “B” team 3.5 to .5 with only one draw from GM Timur Gareyev.
The UTB "A" team consisted of-
#1 Board: GM Timur Gareyev
#2 Board: GM Mauricio Flores
#3 Board: GM Axel Bachmann
#4 Board: IM Max Cornejo
The "A" team has won all 3 of their matches and has earned 3 match points in 3 rounds.
The UTB "B" team lost a very close match against the higher-rated UMBC. Alfonso Almeida and Katerina Nemcova lost both their rounds, while Nadya Ortiz won her game and Luciana Morales drew hers. The results were impressive considering that their opponents were rated quite a bit higher.

The UTB "B" team has 2 match points in 3 rounds.
Tomorrow's rounds will continue at 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, Thursday, Dec. 29. In Round 4, UTB "A" team will compete against the undefeated University of Maryland Baltimore County, and the UTB "B" team will be facing Miami Dade.

The top four finishers will qualify for the 2012 President’s Cup, known as the Final Four of College Chess to be held March 31 – April 1, 2012, in Herndon, Virginia, outside of Washington, D.C.
