Tools for Academic Success

The Student Success Center is committed to providing first-year students, as well as all our university students, the tools for academic success by helping our students establish a solid foundation for learning.  The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) is one of the tools used by the academic counselor to help students discover their skills and strategies for learning.

The LASSI is a 10-scale assessment designed to measure the learning and study skills, practices, and attitudes.  After taking the LASSI, students should schedule follow-up appointments with an academic counselor to review and better understand their result.

 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

What can students learn from the LASSI?

Students learn about the strengths and weaknesses in their learning strategies helping them develop better study skills.

Who can take the LASSI?

Any student registered at the university may complete the LASSI at the Student Success Center.

How do I interpret the LASSI scores?

Students should read the definitions of all 10 scales upon completion of the assessment.  These definitions appear immediately after the bar graph depiction of the assessment results.  In order to address each area of concern, follow-up sessions will be scheduled as needed.

How can I get additional help to address areas of concern identified by the LASSI?

Study skills workshops are offered throughout the long and short semesters at various times and campus locations.   Look for fliers posted on classroom bulletin boards, in the lobby of the Academic Advising Center, Blackboard online, in the “briefs” section of the “Collegian” and noted in the student handbook/planner, which is distributed by the Dean of Students’ Office.
