Service Learning and Center for Civic Engagement
Many UTB/TSC courses require service learning activities and projects in the community. Service learning is any intentional, active, reflective work done to meet community needs. The work must relate to course goals; if an agency is involved, it cannot be a for-profit business.
At UTB/TSC, service learning includes projects and activities such as internships, practicums, field experiences, clinical and other service projects; as long as they fit the service learning criteria established at UTB/TSC. The Center for Civic Engagement facilitates service learning and community engagement projects on campus. The center also offers Beginning Level Service Learning Certificates for UTB/TSC students, faculty and staff in Blackboard. Also, it provides Trickle-up Service Learning in which the center’s scholars assume leadership roles in designing and executing service learning projects for interested UTB/TSC faculty and their students.
