The Americo Paredes Commemorative Lecture
The Texas Center for Border and Transnational Studies will conduct a commemorative lecture intended to bring to campus a distinguished scholar or person who has made significant contributions to the study and or development of the U.S.-Mexico border region. The goal of the lecture will be to further develop the international reputation of UTB/TSC and the Texas center as a place where scholarship and research on the border is performed and valued. The principal audience for the lecture shall be students and faculty; the external community will be invited as appropriate.
NEW! Dr. Gilberto Cardenas, Assistant Provost and Director of the Institute for Latino Studies at Notre Dame University will be the inaugural speaker on October 12, 2010 at 6pm in the SETB Lecture HaLL. Gilberto Cárdenas has worked in the area of immigration for thirty years and has gained international recognition as a scholar in Mexican immigration. Three times named by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the 100 most influential Latinos in the United States, Dr. Cárdenas has authored or edited numerous books, articles, monographs, and reports on topics covering several fields of specialization, including international migration, economy and society, and race and ethnic relations.
