Here are a few facts about service Learning:

Studies show that service learning enriches student learning with 'real world' experiences while meeting community needs. At UTB and TSC, service learning includes any community service involving one or more students in your class as a required (curricular) component of your syllabus, e.g., internships, practicums, field experiences, clinicals and other service projects.

In the 2012-2013 Academic School Year, 5006 students and just under 100 faculty in 425 different courses from across campus engage in service learning experiences.

Since its inception in 2004, the center has funded its Scholarship of Community Engagement (SOCE) with more than $25,000 in mini-grants that help faculty link research with community engagement (see the SOCE mini-grant application above). Applicants must complete the Intro to Service Learning modules available on Blackboard to apply. Please contact the Center  For Civic Engagement to be enrolled in the Intro to Service Learning course.
