Service Learning project:
As part of my trickle-up service learning project, I assisted Dr. Nancy Sclight in her annual Bowl-A-Thon. The Bowl-A-Thon is a project where students and community members participate and learn to make ceramics bowls. The goal of the event is to make more than 200 ceramic bowls that are donated to the RGV Food Bank’s “Empty Bowls Project.” The purpose of this project is to raise money to help needy residents in the Rio Grande Valley. My role in this project was to help Professor Nancy Sclight to organize the event in everything I could from posting flyers to helping her in the bowl making process. I would usually work with her a few times a week depending on what was needed to be done. I really enjoyed this experience because I learned to make ceramic bowls, and I was helping the community at the same time. This was a fun experience thanks to the great work and support of Professor Nancy Sclight.
