Biography:

Harriett Denise Joseph received her B.A. in History and Spanish from Southern Methodist University, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She received both her M.A. and Ph.D. in Latin American History with a minor in Spanish from the University of North Texas.

Later, she spent two summers attending the Institute of Texas Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Joseph joined the Texas Southmost College faculty in 1976 and is currently a full professor of history at UTB.

Dr. Joseph has co-authored two books, "Notable Men and Women of Spanish Texas" and "Explorers and Settlers of Spanish Texas," both published by The University of Texas Press at Austin. She has also co-edited two books, has written approximately a dozen articles, and has done numerous book reviews. During her career, Dr. Joseph has won awards for excellence in scholarship and in teaching.
