Congratulations to the UTB Flute Choir and Flautarra! Ensemble who have been selected to perform at the 2013 National Flute Association Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana this August! The is the first time that an ensemble from UTB has been selected to perform at this annual gathering of thousands of flutists from around the world. Go UTB Flutes!

The Flautissimo Flute Club is excited to host the 2012 Brownsville Flute Festival on November 3, 2012 at the UTB Arts Center. Alexa Still, internationally renowned soloist and Professor of Flute at Oberlin Conservatory, will be our featured guest artist.

The UTB Flute Studio, sponsored by the Flautissimo Flute Club, hosted a fantastic roster of guest artists in 2011-2012! Our guests included PROJECT Trio with Greg Pattillo, Youtube’s Beat Boxing Flutist; Carol Wincenc, Professor of Flute at the Juilliard School; the Imani Winds, a world renowned wind quintet; Helen Ann Shanley, Professor Emeritus of Flute at Baylor University; Kathy Daniel, Professor of Flute at Sam Houston State University, and Naomi Seidman, Professor of Flute at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Bravo! to members of the UTB Flute Choir who performed a tour of Rio Grande Valley high schools, and appeared as featured performers at the San Benito Flute Day at San Benito High School, on May 17, 2012! The mini-tour was in preparation for their performance at the Texas Flute Festival at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas on May 19, 2012, where they performed beautifully. Their program featured works by Antonio Vivaldi, Pierre Max Dubois, Georges Bizet and Peter Schickele.

Congratulations to Ileana Blanco, Clarissa Salinas, and Genesis Blanco for being selected to participate in the 2012 Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival at Juilliard this summer!

Congratulations to Oscar Alvarez, David Gomez, Genesis and Clarissa Salinas for their excellent performances at the 2012 Honors Recital Competition! Twenty-six students from the Department of Music performed in the competition and 9 students were selected to perform in the Honors Recital. Genesis & Clarissa were 2 of the winners selected to perform on March 4, 2012. Go UTB Flutes!

Well done! Samantha Ramirez is the new flute consultant at Lyford ISD in Lyford, Texas; Lisa Altamirano is a new flute consultant at San Benito ISD in San Benito, Texas; Genesis Blanco is a new guard instructor at Port High School in Brownsville, Texas.

The Flautissimo Flute Club at UTB hosted its first ever Flute Week in May 2011! Bonita Boyd, Professor of Flute at the Eastman School of Music, and Dr. Katherine Kemler, Professor of Flute at Louisiana State University, were our guest artists. Ms. Boyd and Dr. Kemler presented recitals and worked with flute students in master classes.

Congratulations to Clarissa Salinas who was awarded the $24,000 Clara Freshour Nelson Music Scholarship from the Texas Association of Music Schools (TAMS). This is a four year scholarship awarded to an outstanding second semester freshman in the state of Texas. Clarissa competed against music students from throughout Texas to win this prestigious scholarship! 

Congratulations to Genesis Blanco who was selected to attend the 2011 Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, held at Lincoln Center and the Juilliard School in New York City this summer.

The Flautissimo Flute Club hosted the third annual, La Notte del Flauto, on April 22, 2011 in the Gran Salon. This year's program, entitled Countdown!, showcased flute ensembles of different sizes and drew a crowd of over 200 people.

Clarissa Salinas was selected as a winner of the 2011 UTB Concerto Aria Competition. She performed the Stamitz Concerto in G Major with the UTB Symphony Orchestra in April 2011.

Congratulations to UTB Flute Studio alumna, Dulce Rodriguez, who is the new Assistant Director of Bands at San Benito ISD, where she teaches 6-12 flute!

Flautissimo Flute Club members, Kristin Wilson, Lisa Altamirano, and Alejandro Cruz, made their first trip to the National Flute Association's international convention in Anaheim, California in August 2010.

Congratulations to Alejandro Cruz who has been accepted into the graduate program at Baylor University, where he was awarded a full tuition Teaching Assistantship in Flute. Alejandro will begin a Master's degree in Flute Performance with Mrs. Helen Ann Shanley in Spring 2011!

The UTB Flautissimo Flute Club presented the 2nd Annual La Notte del Flauto Benefit Concert on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the SETB Lecture Hall on the UTB Campus. All proceeds benefited the FFC's fundraising efforts to attend the 2010 National Flute Association Convention in Anaheim, California.

Congratulations to Lisa Altamirano & Alejandro Cruz who have been selected to participate in the 2010 National Collegiate Wind Ensemble, under the direction of H. Robert Reynolds, at Carnegie Hall in New York City!

Genesis Blanco has been invited to perform with the 2010 International Wind Symphony at Lincoln Center in New York City! She was a member of the 2009 Texas All-State Band.

Congratulations to Alejandro Cruz who was selected as a winner of the 2009 UTB Concerto/Aria Competition, and was selected to participate in the 2008 James Galway International Master Class in Switzerland.

Dulce Rodriguez was accepted into the graduate program at the Texas Tech University School of Music and will begin her M.M. degree in Flute Performance with Dr. Lisa Garner Santa this fall! She was selected to participate in the 2008 SoundSCAPE Music Festival in Pavia, Italy.

UTB Flautissimo Flute Club made it's first trip to the Texas Flute Society's Texas Flute Festival in Denton, Texas in May 2009!

UTB’s Arts Center, a new $25 million music education building and recital hall, will feature specially designed rehearsal halls, classrooms, and performance spaces. The Arts Center is scheduled to open Spring 2010.
