Scholarships

The UTB/TSC Department of Music offers students many opportunities to perform or study music. Students will have the opportunity to study in applied lessons, music theory classes, music history classes, and technique classes to prepare them to become music educators and professional performers. Students may participate in ensembles such as the Bravo Opera Company, Mariachi Escorpion, Jazz Band, Campus Choir, Community Orchestra, Recorder Ensemble and many more. We offer students interested in performing music over $80,000 in music ensemble scholarships every year.

Music Program Auditions - Music Majors

Music majors and minors are required to audition in their main instrumental/vocal area on one of the Audition Days listed below. Once students pass the audition, they will be eligible to begin the music core classes. To maintain the scholarship each year, music majors and minors must hold a 3.0 overall grade point average, a 3.0 in music courses, and complete 15 hours per semester. Scholarships are awarded based on ability and need. Students may be eligible for more than one ensemble scholarship. Music majors are also eligible to apply for one of the academic excellence scholarships from the $60,000 music scholarship endowment.

Scholarship Auditions - non-music majors

Students do not have to be a music major or minor to receive a scholarship to participate in an ensemble, but must be enrolled as a full-time UTB student and maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Auditions will allow these student to be placed in an appropriate ensemble. Scholarships will also be distributed based on ability and need as demonstrated in the audition. Students may be eligible for more than one ensemble scholarship.

Auditions Requirements

Auditions are held on campus during our Audition Days in front of a panel of faculty. Students are encouraged to audition with 2 or 3 pieces in contrasting styles and may be asked to sight-read. If you cannot attend one of these dates, auditions can also held by appointment.
