Martha Placeres, originally from Puebla-Mexico, received a degree in Violin performance from the Puebla State Conservatory of Music, and a Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at Brownsville. She is currently a Violin, Viola, Music Theory, Aural Skills Teacher and the Director of the UTB/TSC Symphony Orchestra, as well as Violin Instructor at the UTB/TSC Music Academy. As a violinist, she has been part of different ensembles like the Puebla Conservatory Orchestra, Puebla Chamber Orchestra, Valley Symphony Orchestra as well as founder and conductor of the Puebla Conservatory of Music Youth Orchestra. She has been invited to the National Convention of Orchestral Conductors at Tlaxcala, Mexico; the National Orchestra Convention in Mexico City, and the Texas Chamber Music Festival in Austin, TX. She was a featured soloist performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with well-known orchestras in Mexico. In 2003, she published an exhaustive work about Violin History in one of the most important newspapers in Puebla, Mexico –Sintesis-, and in 2005 she made a research and Recital about 20th century Mexican Music written for Violin and Piano.

Ms. Placeres was given an Award in November 2008 as “Woman of the Year in the Arts” in the State of Puebla, Mexico. The Award “Carmen Serdán Alatriste” is only given to women from Puebla who have an outstanding career and have contributed to the Culture in the State.

Ms. Placeres is an active guest conductor for different orchestras in Mexico.
