Society for Human Resource Management
The Society for Human Resource Management is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries, the society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters and more than 450 affiliated SHRM student chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China and India.
SHRM provides opportunities for students to network on the local level through student chapters. SHRM student chapters have regular meetings with scheduled programs designed to help members learn more about HR and the real world of business.
Elected student officers run the chapters with the assistance of a chapter advisor and sponsoring professional SHRM chapter members. Chapters invite local business people to speak to the members about current developments in the business world and how they will impact future workers. Beyond the regular meetings, chapters may organize a variety of activities including company tours, student conferences, resume-writing and interviewing workshops, fundraisers, internship programs, and social events. These activities allow students to learn more about human resource management while building relationships with local professionals and other students.
More than 450 affiliated SHRM student chapters offer local activities on university campuses throughout the United States. UTB/TSC is proud to be among those universities offering their students this opportunity.
