PD 1001 - Accommodating and Modifying Science Instruction for the English Language Learner. The workshop will provide K-12 science teachers with activities and information to become familiar with ELPS framework and develop concrete ways to implement the ELPS to develop science content knowledge and language acquisition skills. The workshop fee includes the workbook and handouts specific to meeting the requirements of the law. The workshop is limited to 30 participants. PD 1003 - Flippin' Out for Science. The workshop will introduce K-12 science teachers to using still and video images to support science instruction and classroom management and organization. The lessons learned can be easyily applied to other disciplines. The workshop includes both classroom and field activities. the workshop fee of $150 allows the participant to take home an HD flip video camera ($150 value)that easily adapts to both PC and MAC formats and also provides other digital and print resources. PD 1004 - Nutrition in Physical Education. The workshop will cover the basics of nutrition, the role of nutrition in fitness, methods of incorporating nutrition education into physical education classes, and variety of games, activities and resources the physical education teacher can use and/or access. The class is applicable to all grade levels. The workshop is limited to 30 participants. The presenter is Dr. Christopher Ledingham, Assistant Professor for Health and Human Performance. PD 1005 - Hands on Health Education. This half day workshop will cover a variety of “hands-on” teaching techniques that are simple, interactive and can be easily applied to various health lessons. The class is applicable to all grade levels as age appropriate techniques will be demonstrated and practiced for all grades. Health topics covered include First Aid, Nutrition, Drugs and Alcohol, Sexuality, Consumer Health, Fitness, Relationships and others. The workshop is limited to 30 participants. PD 1006 - Differentiated Instruction in Inclusive Classrooms for Children with Special Needs. In this full day workshop, participants will learn how to individualize to the specific learning needs of children with special needs while addressing the curricular demands of the whole class.
