The Child Care an Development program is designed to provide instruction and field experiences necessary for successful care and guidance of young children from birth to five years of age. Emphasis is on the importance and need for early childhood education and quality care of children. The Child Care and Development program, an Occupational/Technical program, is in the Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies Department and is a division of the College of Education. Students completing the Child Care and Development program are prepared to work with children in child care centers, preschools, family care homes, Head Start and early intervention programs. The Raul J. Guerra Early Childhood Center serves as a campus lab site for the Child Care and Development program.
The UTB/TSC Raul J. Guerra Early Childhood Center has a rich tradition of excellence in early childhood education. The Center was established in 1982. Today, the Raul J. Guerra Early Childhood Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and meets the criteria set by the Texas Rising Start to be rated as a four-star facility.
