Degrees:
Dr. Alma Dolores Rodríguez received her doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston . She also holds a master’s degree in English as a Second Language and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Spanish and Bilingual Education from The University of Texas at Brownsville, where she also obtained an English/Spanish and Spanish/English Interpreter Certificate. Dr. Rodríguez holds educator certifications in the state of Texas in the areas of bilingual education, ESL, Spanish, and principal. Prior to her work in higher education, Dr. Rodriguez worked as an elementary school bilingual and ESL teacher and as an assistant principal and dean of instruction at the secondary level.

Teaching Interest:

Dr. Rodríguez teaches in the bilingual and ESL teacher preparation program, the Master’s in Bilingual Education program, as well as in the doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Brownsville. Her teaching interests are in the area of bilingual and ESL curriculum. She specializes in teaching bilingual and ESL methods courses, foundations of bilingual education and ESL courses, and curriculum development courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Area of Specialty and Responsibility:

Dr. Alma D. Rodríguez is an Associate Professor in the department of Language, Literacy, and Intercultural Studies where she has been teaching courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in the area of bilingual and ESL curriculum. She also supports master’s and doctoral students by chairing and serving on master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation committees. In addition, Dr. Rodríguez serves as the assessment committee chair at the department level, and co-chair at the college level taking on a leading role in her department coordinating the efforts towards national accreditation. She writes the undergraduate bilingual and ESL as well as the master’s in bilingual education accreditation reports. Dr. Rodríguez also serves as the SACS liaison for her department and chairs the undergraduate curriculum committee at the department, college and university level. Dr. Rodríguez currently serves as the 2013-2014 President of the Texas Association of Teacher Educators (TxATE) and as a board member of the Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE).
