15th Annual Bi-national Conference Organized by the School of Education
The School of Education at the University of Texas/TSC in Brownsville is proud to announce the 15th Annual Bi-National Conference for educators in all areas of learning.

Judy Powell to speak at faculty seminar
On November 20, we are having a faculty seminar and our featured speaker is Ms. Judy Powell.  She is Chair of the State Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors.  She will be speaking on Ethics in the Counseling Profession.  That will be on Thursday night and students and community are invited.  Since Ms. Powell also is involved with the Board’s subcommittee on grievance/discipline.

Raul Guerra Early Childhood Center recognized as a Texas School Ready Site
The Raul Guerra Early Childhood Center has been recognized as a “Texas School Ready” site. The Texas Legislature created the School Readiness Certification Program in 2005 to promote high quality early childhood education programs.

Dr. Yznaga selected as Counselor Educator of the Year
Our colleague Dr. Selma de Leon-Yznaga has been selected as the Counselor Educator of the Year by the Texas School Counselor Association for 2008. She was selected from counselor educators across the State for her dedication and contribution to the counseling profession.

UTB School of Education gets $2.2 million federal grant
The University of Texas at Brownsville’s School of Education will announce at a press conference on Thursday, Oct. 11 that it has received a $2.2 million five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to produce 90 new teachers in the next four years.

Yznaga, associate professor for school specialties and coordinator of the Community Counseling Clinic at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, received the Counselor Educator of the Year award given by the Texas Counseling Association in November in Houston.

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – OCTOBER 9, 2008 – Leaders from The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College and the Brownsville Independent School District formally opened the Brownsville Early College High School on Thursday, Oct. 9.

UTB/TSC Alumna Becomes First Principal of New Brownsville School 
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – AUGUST 27, 2008 – More than 100 high school freshmen entered the old Clearwater Elementary School on Palm Boulevard for the Brownsville Independent School District’s first day of class on Monday, Aug. 25 and met a longtime district employee and University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College alumna at the leadership helm.
