Dr. Vejoya Viren is an Associate Professor of early childhood Education at the University of Texas at Brownsville. She is interested in Pre-school peer dynamics, early childhood conflict and resolution, infant and toddler development, and culture and gender in pre-school classrooms. She presents regularly at international, national, and state conferences-including IPA (International Play Association), NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), and TAEYC (Texas Association for the Education of Young Children). She also presents workshops for local preschool and daycare teachers through the SMAEYC (Southmost Association for the Education of Young Children). Her session was featured at the annual NAEYC conference. 

Making meaning of conflict: a qualitative inquiry in two preschool classrooms (VDM Verlag, 2008) is a case study of two preschool classrooms and the verbal conflicts of children. It examines children’s growing understanding of each other that becomes apparent and is inherent in their dialogic exchanges during conflicts.

Play in conflict (2007) is an article that has been included in the book  Where do the children play? Goodenough (Ed.), and attempts to explain the reasons why children spend less time playing outdoors.

Her recent collaborative work examines The effect of early childhood developmental program attendance on future school enrollment and grade progression in rural north India is published in The Economics of Education Review. Vol. 31, No. 1, pp. 146-161.​
