Girl Scouts Bait the Hook 2012
UTB Biology Graduate Student, Liana Lerma, hosted an outreach event (Girl Scouts Bait the Hook 2012) as part of a service learning component of Dr. Kline's ichthyology class. The ‘Girl Scouts Bait the Hook 2012’ event took place on April 28th, 2012 at the South Padre Island Center and introduced the Girl Scouts of the Greater South Texas to local fish species, their habitat, and the importance of fish conservation. Activities included fish printing art, demonstrated by Tony Reisinger of Texas Sea Grant along with demonstrations of fishing skills and safety regulations given by the non-profit organization, Fishing's Future. Seventy local girl scouts, including troop leaders attended this event. Additional sponsors included KOA Campgrounds and H-E-B.
