Certified Public Manager Program

Eligibility Requirements

All persons interested in training for professional public management should apply. When admitting an individual to the program, The Institute for Public Service considers that a successful completion of the CPM courses and coursework requires a high degree of conceptual ability, reading comprehension, written and oral communication skills. Admission, then, is focused on the capacity of the candidate to benefit from the program. That capacity is determined through interview and review by the Admissions Committee.

Candidates for Certified Public Manager may typically fall into these categories: Management or Management Staff. Many will hold a management or management staff position in a governmental or non-profit organization. A management position is defined as one which requires direction and supervision of more than one other employee. A management staff position is defined as one which, while not requiring direction and supervision of others, directly serves management by providing high-level technical or professional expertise.

Undergraduate or Graduate Student. Students enrolled in academic curricula aimed at a degree in public management, public policy, or other field that benefits from training in public management.

Persons seeking a career in public management. Public managers often arise from other careers, including managers and management staff in the private sector, professionals seeking a change in direction, and other capable persons seeking to enhance their understanding of the workings of managing public-serving entities.

If you aspire to a career in public management, in the governmental, agency, or non-profit sector, this course is for you.

The Institute for Public Service is committed to the principle of equal opportunity and will not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, handicap, disability, or veteran's status in its admissions, program accessibility, or services.
