Dr.Jose Marcelo Garza joined the faculty of Texas Southmost College in 1987. He served as chair of the Department of English and Speech at UTB/TSC from 1993 to 1999 and as director of the Sabal Palms Writing Project, a local site of the National Writing Project, from 2003 through 2005. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, an M.A. in creative writing from San Francisco State University, and B.A. in philosophy from Austin College, in Sherman, Texas. In addition to creative writing, he has teaching specialties in American literature and American culture and criticism.

James Frost is an Associate Professor in the Department of English. Prior to his arrival at the University of Texas Brownsville this past August, he was the Director of the Programs in Professional Writing at the University of Illinois Urban Champaign. He has also served in administrative and teaching positions at the University of Minnesota, Boise State University, Texas A&M University (where he received his Ph.D. in English), and the University of Texas Pan American (where he received his Masters in English). In addition to his academic background, he founded Black Canyon Communications, a publishing company in Idaho, which received the 2002 Idaho Book of the Year Award from the Idaho Library Association. His research interests include Environmental Rhetoric, the Rhetoric of Entrepreneurship, and Composition Pedagogy.

Originally from Port Arthur Texas, Felicia Farquhar received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2006 (cum laude). She obtained her M.S in Biology from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2008. Within the discipline, her primary area of research is related to marine biology/ecology, with undergraduate research dabbling in the biomedical sciences (neurology and infectious disease). Her hobbies include surfing, jogging, playing with her dog (her only child), and working outside in the flower beds and goldfish pond. She is in an established relationship with Dr. Robert Kellogg; a 50 yr. resident of San Benito and is a well known and highly respected local veterinarian.
