ABOUT US

Welcome to the Title V Website!

Title V is a federally funded grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to The University of Texas at Brownsville in October 2008. The UTB Title V program was established to provide comprehensive learning communities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

The overarching goal of the Title V grant is to improve the communication and information literacy skills of UTB STEM students. This program seeks to improve the academic success of STEM field students by integrating technology, offering faculty development opportunities via the Center for Teaching and Learning, and implementing STEM learning communities.

The STEM Learning Communities sponsored by Title V fall under the umbrella of the UTB  “Power of Two” program alongside the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) program of linked courses.

Learning communities have been proven to be an effective strategy aimed at improving student learning, persistence, and graduation. Title V integrated learning communities seek to improve students' critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and communication skills.  All of our STEM Learning Communities have a strong student support service component. On this site, you will find information about the Title V STEM learning communities as well as the resources that we are providing to help students succeed. Thank you for visiting our site, if you have any questions, suggestions, or comments regarding the Title V program, please contact us.
