Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership
Position Number

Reports to: Department Chairperson
Scope: This position will involve teaching and service in the Educational Leadership program. Specific responsibilities will include the teaching of graduate courses in the Masters in Educational Leadership degree and in the Principal and Superintendent Certification Program. Specific teaching assignments for the position will be matched with departmental needs and candidate expertise. This is a full-time non-tenure track position. Education: The applicant must hold an earned doctorate in the field of educational leadership and demonstrate a record of leadership positions in public education.
Experience: Preferred candidates will have successful higher education teaching experience; and ability to secure external funding; leadership experience in K-12 education settings; and experience in working with school boards, central office and campus personnel, parents and families, business leaders, and other community stakeholders. This position is contingent upon funding.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice
Position Number: FY 10-22
Reports to: Chairperson of Criminal Justice Department
Scope: Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice to join our faculty and contribute to our rapidly growing criminal justice program which serves more than 1000 majors.  The Criminal Justice Department currently offers a baccalaureate degree in criminal justice with three alternative tracks:  correctional administration, police administration, and an online criminology/criminal justice degree through the UT Telecampus.  We also offer graduate courses that students use towards the Master of Public Policy and Management degree and towards the Mast of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies degree offered by the university.  We are searching for a dynamic teacher-scholar who can contribute to a rapidly growing criminal justice program and assist in the process of expending course offerings.  The position is to begin during the Fall semester (August 2010), though an employment option exists for the Spring semester (January 2010). This is a full-time tenure track position.  This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education/Experience: Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a related field is required. (A J.D. alone is not sufficient).  ABDs will be considered if graduating by official hiring date. Area of specialization is open; however final consideration will be based on departmental need.  Applied experience in the criminal justice system and/or teaching experience will also be considered favorably.  All applicants must possess a commitment to excellence in the classroom, a willingness to serve the university and the community and the promise of scholarly productivity.

Assistant/Associate Professor of English (Composition)
Position Number:  FY 10-40
Reports to:  Chair of the English Department
Scope:  The primary teaching responsibilities will be in the area of composition. The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in the management of the Sabal Palms Writing Project. The selected faculty member will serve on departmental, college, and university committees, maintain appropriate office hours, and fulfill all other responsibilities of a faculty member at The University of Texas at Brownsville. This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information. This position is a Full-Time/Tenure-Track position. Effective 2010-2011 academic year.
Education:  PhD required. ABD’s in field and near completion will be considered.
Experience:  Experience and/or training in Composition Studies, Writing Centers, Writing Across the Curriculum and Rhetoric required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Familiar with the National Writing Project is preferred.
Salary:  As per UTB/TSC Classified Pay Plan.

Scope:  The primary teaching responsibilities will be in the area of linguistics; however, the successful candidate will also possess training and experience in one or more of the following supporting areas: development writing, ESOL, grammar, or freshman composition. The selected faculty member will serve on departmental, college, and university committees, maintain appropriate office hours and fulfill all other responsibilities of a faculty member at the University of Texas at Brownsville. This position is a Full-Time/Tenure-Track position. Effective 2010-2011 academic year.
Education:  PhD preferred. ABD near completion may apply.
Experience:  Experience and/or sensitivity to the needs of minority student populations preferred.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics & Statistics (Multiple Positions)
Position Number: FY 10-25
Reports to: Chairperson of Mathematics Department
Scope: The Department of Mathematics at UTB/TSC seeks applications for several open tenure-track positions starting in Spring and Fall 2010. Applicants will be considered at both junior and senior levels. All mathematical fields will be considered, but at least one hire will be made in statistics or applied mathematics. The department offers a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Mathematics. Though the department has a traditional focus on teaching, it is now increasing its strength and breadth in research. This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education/Experience: Ph.D. in Mathematics, mathematical sciences, statistics, computational mathematics, applied mathematics, or mathematical physics required. Candidates should be qualified to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics. Preference will be given to candidates who show potential to secure external funds and conduct original research.

Assistant Master Technical Instructor in Associate Degree Nursing

Position Number: FY 08-155
Reports to: Director of Associate Degree Nursing Department 
Scope: Responsibilities of the Assistant/Associate Professor include planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating instruction in Nursing in accordance with the philosophy, and academic standards of The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College.  This is a full-time tenure track position. Position contingent upon funding.
Education/Experience: Masters of Science degree in Nursing required.  A faculty member holding a master’s degree in a discipline other than nursing shall hold a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited baccalaureate program in Nursing and have at least six (6) semester hours of graduate-level content in Nursing appropriate to her or his teaching responsibilities.  Each nursing faculty shall hold a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas and hold a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas and show evidence of same upon request.  Each nursing faculty shall carry professional liability insurance.  It is required that each nursing faculty has progressive clinical nursing experience necessary to function effectively and safely in her or his area(s) of teaching.  Experience in an Associate Degree Nursing Program is highly desirable.  This position is contingent upon funding.

Education: Bachelor’s in nursing required.  Associate’s Degree in Nursing with bachelors in another field considered.
Experience: Three years clinical experience required, preferably in Medical Surgical Intensive Care or Pediatric Nursing.

Education: Doctorate degree in Nursing preferred, or a Master of Science in Nursing with a Doctorate degree in a related field considered.
Experience: Candidates must be qualified to teach in both the undergraduate and the graduate programs in any of the following areas: Leadership and Management, Medical/Surgical, Psych-Mental Health, Research, and Maternal/Child Health.  Active or funded research history is expected.
