Director of Communications and Institutional Advancement

Reports to: Texas Southmost College District President.
Scope: The Director of Communications and Institutional Advancement serves as a member of the College Leadership Team to describe and communicate with a broad public, involving both internal and external constituents, the activities of and plans for Texas Southmost College. With the reestablishment of Texas Southmost College as an independent institution, the responsibilities of this position will relate to providing accurate and timely information on the development of the College.  The position will also involve fund raising activities on behalf of Texas Southmost College.

The responsibilities will involve:

  • Developing descriptive materials of interest to the students, faculty, and    general public that accurately illustrate activities of the College
  • Working with the print and electronic media to assure the messages of Texas Southmost College are understood and conveyed to the appropriate outlets
  • Overseeing the preparation of course catalogs, class schedules, and other essential materials for student programs
  • Being responsible for the content of the webpage of the College
  • Generating external financial support for the College’s programs including student financial aid
  • Developing district-wide plans and strategic goals/ achievement indicators for implementing programs and services that support the accomplishment of the College mission in the areas of communications and institutional advancement.
  • Participating in community and other organizational activities and events that promote the image and programs of Texas Southmost College
  • Staying abreast of external activities and that may impact College programs and services

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the job responsibilities is required.
Experience: At least five years experience is required in job responsibilities that are directly related to the position description. Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds are required.

Vice President of Instruction and Student Services

Reports to: Texas Southmost College District President
Scope: The Vice President of Instruction and Student Services serves as a member of the College Leadership Team to plan and establish strategic goals/ achievement indicators, and implement programs and services that support both the accomplishment of the College mission and the continuation of College accreditation status. This position will:

  • Develop, evaluate and modify district-wide policies and procedures pertaining to instruction and student services
  • Provide leadership in the development of programs, course offerings, class schedules and academic resources across the college for optimal efficiency and effectiveness
  • Provide leadership for all academic programs and student service functions and work collaboratively with faculty on institutional effectiveness, faculty development and student development initiatives
  • Supervise the activities and functions of the College library, College academic, vocational-technical, developmental and continuing education programs, student testing and financial aid, counseling and advising, student job placement and employment, advising and registration, student activities and athletics
  • Serve as liaison with the coordinating board on the development and approval of new programs
  • Participate in community and organizational activities and events including program advisory boards and serve as the official representative of the College President in his/her absence
  • Stay abreast of legislative changes and evaluate their impact on College programs and functions as well as policy, procedures and academic guidelines. This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information

Education: Master’s degree is required. A doctorate degree is preferred.
Experience: At least five years experience is required as a college-level instructor and as an academic administrator preferably at the community college level. Administrative experience at a dean’s level is highly preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds are required.
