Vice President for Research
Position Number: FY 10-41
Reports to: Provost
Scope: The Vice President for Research will provide leadership in the strategic planning, development, growth, and marketing of UTB/TSC’s research and technology transfer, seek funding to support such programs; evaluate the feasibility and progress of related programs; build partnerships and collaborations that further the goals of the university; and perform other duties as assigned. This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education: Doctoral degree required.
Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in academic management; an established record of distinguished scholarship, and a history of externally funded research to support appointment as a professor. Other qualifications: strong leadership and interpersonal skills; excellent judgment in conflict management and negotiation; knowledge of and sensitivity to talents, interests, and scholarship of faculty from various disciplines within the university; ability to recruit, retain, and develop talent among a diverse workgroup; extensive knowledge of and experience with governmental, corporate, and private funding agencies and mechanisms; a working knowledge of academic administration including, but not limited to, economic development and marketing, compliance, basic research and clinical trials, intellectual properties, and technology transfer; strong writing and public speaking skills; ability to travel. The preferred candidate will have working knowledge of The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College and familiarity with The University of Texas System.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
