Academic Advisor - STEPS

Reports to: Director of Science and Technology Educational Partnership (STEPS)
Scope: Design, organize and administer advisement activities of the STEPS project that attract students to STEPS programs from High School in the area of The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) and graduates of academic and career/technical programs of Colleges in neighboring districts, i.e. Texas State Technical College (TSTC) and Del Mar Community College (DMC).  Provide intensive and focused advisement in developing realistic academic, career and personal goals and guidance to facilitate the transfer process from associate level programs to academic or applied baccalaureate programs for students who have been traditionally underrepresented seeking degrees in science, math, engineering, and technology disciplines. Education: Bachelor’s degree with major course work in education, social work, counseling or a related field required.

Administrative Assistant - Student Health Services

Aquatics & Events Coordinator
Position Number: FY 09-118 
Reports to: Director of Campus Recreation
Scope: To develop and provide direct supervision of the aquatics and special events program provided by Campus Recreation.  Develop and direct the aquatics program to include computer-based registration, inventory, and scheduling; aquatic programs, workshops, events and rentals.  Development and implementation of aquatic risk management.  Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate lifeguard and event staff.  Lead daily operations of member management and event programming.  Strategic planning, assessment, and assist with budget management of the aquatics program.  Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science or Recreation/Leisure Management or related degree is required. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one year of increasing experience in higher education is required. Experience in planning, supervision and program development is preferred. One year of experience in training and supervising lifeguard and aquatic staff is highly preferred. Prefer candidates with involvement in the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA); and experience with Student Affairs and Student Life Divisions of a university campus.
Certifications: All applicants (when submitting their applications) need to include copies of their certifications. Required certifications: ARC, First Aid and Community CPR. Preferred certifications: Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid/CPR Instructor and Certified Pool Operator License. Scope: Assistant Director to plan, manage and oversee the Classic Upward Bound – Rio Hondo Program’s activities, reporting and evaluating operations.  Provide highly responsible and complex administration and supervisory support to the Program Director  Also perform a variety of duties involved in providing information and assistance to students regarding in-take, academic and personal counseling.  To recommend, monitor and assist with the improvement and expansion of grant, to serve existing and developing needs of the staff, the community and students. Associate Director of Business Office

Reports to: Director of Business Office
Scope: The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College seeks an Associate Director of Business Office.  The Associate Director provides high level assistance in the direction, management, supervision and coordination of the programs and activities of several functional areas of the Business Office and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Business Office Director.  This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education: This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field.  Master’s Degree in Business Administration or CPA preferred.

Athletic Director

Reports to: Associate Vice President for Student Affairs
Scope: UTB/TSC invites applications for the position of Athletic Director.  This is a full-time twelve month appointment.  Responsibilities include supervision of athletic facilities/fields, as well as coaching staff for sports programs, and management of all fiscal operations.  Another primary responsibility of the Athletic Director at UTB/TSC will be fund development and fund raising.  We seek an individual committed to the holistic achievement of student athletes within a competitive sports program.  Depending on the candidate’s interests and background, teaching assignments may be negotiated if they are in the interest of the institution.  This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal record history information (For more detailed information about our athletic programs/AD position; please e-mail Dr. Vince Solis, Associate VPSA at Vince.Solis@utb.edu).

Career Counselor I

Reports to: Title V Activity Director
Scope: UTB/TSC has received a Title V grant to improve the academic success of SMART field students by integrating technology, communication skills and learning communities.  The main responsibility of this position will be to provide professional career counseling services.  Essential and other important responsibilities and career duties may include, but are not limited to the following.  Will provide assessments, interpret results and guide students in their choice of career plans.  He/she will advise students in career planning, financial literacy skills and will address counseling needs for learning community students through group and individual sessions.  This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education: Master’s degree in counseling and guidance, counseling education, counseling psychology or any other counseling related field is required.

Chess Coach

Reports to:  Director of the Chess Program
Scope:  The successful candidate will coach and provide leadership to a collegiate chess program. In addition to serving as lead instructor for the chess team, qualified individuals must assist in planning and running clinics, tournaments, and summer camps. The candidate will also assist in securing support and funding for the chess program and student scholarships. Education:  High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:  Three years experience providing effective chess instruction to players of different ages and abilities, up to a Grandmaster level. Grandmaster title strongly preferred. Child Care Specialist

Scope: To perform a variety of work involved in the directing of classroom procedures and evaluating each child’s progress in the classroom; to ensure classroom compliance with State and contract standards; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to child development.  This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in child psychology or development, education or a related field is required.  Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Experience: This position requires three (3) years of responsible experience in child care services including one year of administrative or supervisory responsibility or two years of college field experience will count towards experience required.  The successful candidate must be knowledgeable of modern principles and practices of child care services; basic principles of budget preparation and pertinent Federal, State and UT System laws, codes and regulations.  Candidate must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Computer Equipment Maintenance Technician I

Coordinator of Institutional Research and Planning

Reports to:  Director of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness (IRPE)
Scope:  Responsible for the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of University institutional research and reporting activities. Conduct institutional research, interpret findings, and disseminate results in narrative or graphic form. Responsible for monitoring the integrity of institutional data. Develop and administer survey instruments to support institutional decision-making processes. Participate in the maintenance of a campus-wide evaluation system. Prepare and coordinate internal and external reports, including local, state, and federal reports, surveys and questionnaires. Perform internal and external scanning to identify instructional opportunities, Provide support to the Director of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness in quality improvement activities for the University. Education:  Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:  Two years of institutional research experience in higher education required. One year supervisory experience preferred. Experience with data and statistical analysis, research methods, designs and survey methodology. Knowledge of SPSS or other statistical software required. Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Access. Familiarity with Datatel and web-based applications preferred. Database Manager
Position Number: FY 09-161
Reports to: Associate Vice President for Development
Scope: To design, maintain, and control the Raiser’s Edge Blackbaud database.  To analyze all informational requirements, develop database specifications, and enforce all database standards.  The database manager needs to understand the platform used to run the database and must be able to add new users to the system.  Responsible for managing and maintaining a variety of information technology support services for gift processing and acknowledgement function and fundraising data through data base administration, report development, statistical data analysis and training.  This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Technology related field.
Experience: Two years direct experience in word processing and database file maintenance required (prefer experience with Windows and Microsoft Office).  Must be able to effectively plan and implement projects, with attention to detail and accuracy.

Development Research Associate

Scope:  The Development Research Associate will provide comprehensive grant support focusing primarily within the College of Applied Technology and General Studies.  Responsible for researching and identifying potential funding sources, writing, submitting and tracking grant applications to potential local, state, and federal agencies as well as to corporate and private foundations.  Works with administrative staff, deans, faculty members and appropriate staff to conceptualize and produce funding proposals and reports.  Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility and assists in general institutional activities as assigned by supervisor.  Occasional travel required.  This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.

Director of Environmental Health & Safety

Reports to: Associate Vice President for Business Affairs/Compliance
Scope: Responsible for the administration and management of the University's environmental health and safety program, establishing and maintaining all environmental health and safety standards, management of biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards, and compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.  Provide technical assistance and skills in the administration, operation, and support of environmental health and safety programs in compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and institutional policies.  Responsible for coordinating and facilitating surveys and inspections of properties and operations.  This position is security-sensitive subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education/Experience: A Bachelor's Degree in engineering, natural science, industrial hygiene, environmental science with five years experience required. Director of the Fine Arts Center
Position Number:  FY 10-02
Reports to:  Vice President for Economic Development and Community Services
Scope:  Provide the necessary administration, management, and supervision of the overall operations of The Arts Center, an 800-seat educational and performance venue. Work closely with campus and external communities to ensure creative and efficient use of facility. Essential Job Functions:  Establish and implement a marketing plan as well as schedule events for The Arts Center. Coordinate the needs of the UTB/TSC Fine Arts Department and Patron of the Arts. Coordinate bookings for stage productions. Attract large-capacity student events to the center. Help promote events scheduled at the center. Work with faculty and development officials to help raise funds. Recommend appropriate venues for community events. Prepare and manage the budget for the facility. Supervise technical and clerical staff. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Arts Management or related field from an accredited university is required. Master’s degree preferred.

Research Assistant in Radio Pulsar Astrophysics
