Data Collector/Examiner (Part-Time)
Position Number: FY 08-01 UTH
Scope: To assist the Children's Learning Institute in its efforts to improve literacy, language and math skills of preschool, elementary and middle age children. These individuals will administer educational based assessments to students in schools within the McAllen area during school hours.
Education/Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Two years prior experience dealing with the public or in an educational capacity. Must have reliable transportation to be able to travel to schools within the McAllen area. Some positions require bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking skills. Epidemiology, Human Immunology and Behavioral Sciences
Position Number: RAHC - 01
Reports to: Director of UTSPH, Brownsville Regional Campus
Scope: The University of Texas School of Public Health (UTSPH), Brownsville Regional Campus invites applications for three tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level. These positions will enable UTSPH to expand a rapidly growing translational research program aimed at understanding and preventing obesity, diabetes and related co-morbidities. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established faculty group focused on teaching, research and community service to address public health needs in the Lower Rio Grande Valley and along the U.S.-Mexico Border. Located in tropical Texas less than a mile from the Mexican border, the program has population-based studies in a minority, underserved, binational community. Infrastructure includes a vigorous and innovative outreach program, an extensively documented Hispanic cohort, a Clinical Research Unit and a laboratory (BSL-2/3) with trained staff. Focus is on under-studied complications (immune impairment, infections and mental health), but also well-known conditions (cardiovascular disease). Integration of behavioral, epidemiological and basic biological sciences offers novel opportunities in translational research for minority and international health populations. Infrastructure is provided by major collaborative grants and multi-site studies.
Education/Experience: Qualifications include: (1) earned medical or doctoral degree with expertise in epidemiology, immunology, behavioral sciences, or associated disciplines; (2) commitment to excellence in teaching and advising graduate students; (3) a record or potential of both independent and collaborative research; (4) excellent written and oral communication skills; and (5) an interest in working on the U.S.-Mexico border with Hispanic populations.
