Campus to Close for Tropical Storm Dolly
July 22, 2008 - 10:04 a.m.
Tropical Storm Dolly is now in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and a hurricane warning has been issued for Northern Mexico and the lower Texas coast to Corpus Christi.
The university’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) determined at an 8 a.m. meeting that the campus will be shut down today and all classes finished by 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, July 22. The campus will also be shut down on Wednesday, July 23.
Departments and offices should reduce their staff to a skeleton crew by 2 p.m. today and all employees to leave campus at 4:15 p.m. Employees should also have their areas prepared as per the hurricane plan.
The UTB/TSC Hurricane Team and the UTB/TSC Hurricane Plan/Alert Page will keep you updated if the campus will re-open and classes will resume on Thursday, July 24.
Dolly is moving west-northwest at 12 mph and is projected to reach hurricane status on Tuesday. Landfall is estimated around 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 23 with the possibility of reaching Category 2 status.

Physical Plant employees are now delivering sandbags and plywood for hurricane preparations.
At the Village at Fort Brown arrangements are in place to move 20 students and staff members to The University of Texas- Pan American. Students in the UTB/TSC Upward Bound Program from the Rio Hondo School District will be sent home Tuesday.
Students and faculty can log in to My UTBTSC Blackboard to check on class assignments and messages during the closures of the UTB/TSC campus.
The following events are also rescheduled:
- Kids College and the Filmmaking Camp 2008 at the International Technology, Education and Commerce Campus will operate Tuesday and will close at 2 p.m. Today and resume with UTB/TSC classes For more information call (956) 882-4192.
- Scorpiontation scheduled for Wednesday, July 23 and Thursday, July 24, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 30 and Thursday, July 31.
- The High School Equivalency Program graduation ceremony has been postponed until Friday, August 1.
- The Testing Office has canceled COMPASS, GRE and Teacher testing for the afternoon of Tuesday, July 22, and all day Wednesday, July 23, Thursday, July 24 and Friday, July 25. Please contact the office at 882-8875 for further information.
