Campus to close at 2 p.m. Friday for Tropical Storm Don
UTB/TSC will shut down operations at 2 p.m., Friday, July 29 because of the arrival of Tropical Storm Don. In preparation for a storm, it is always a good idea to save data, remove hard drives and remove items off floors.
The Art League next to the American Legion Building will be open between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. today for campus departments to store their golf carts during the storm.
The campus is scheduled to re-open as normal on Saturday, July 30.
As of mid-Friday morning, the storm was 140 miles east of South Padre Island moving west-northwest at 14 mph. The National Weather Service predicts rain bands to begin in Cameron County late this morning or early afternoon with the core of the rain and wind arriving between 2 to 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight. The tropical storm brings lightning and thunder and the potential for tornadoes. Between 3 and 7 inches of rain and winds from 25 to 30 mph with gusts over 50 mph are predicted for most of Cameron and Willacy counties. The National Weather Service has put Cameron and Willacy counties under a tropical storm warning.
Tropical Storm Don is projected to make landfall about 9 p.m. Friday in Kenedy County, according to the National Weather Service.
