Lab/Shop Safety Training Requirements
Any employee working with or around hazardous chemicals and/or potentially infectious materials must complete two state-mandated trainings annually – the Texas Hazard Communication Act training and the Bloodborne Pathogens training. New employees requiring these trainings must receive in-person training within 30 days of their first day of work and before working in an area with hazardous chemicals and/or potentially infectious materials. The University identifies new employees needing training through a new hires list sent monthly to the Environmental Health & Safety Office. EH&S staff also informs new employees of the training during new employee orientations. Current employees are able to complete their annual refresher training on the University Training Post.
