Dali String Quartet was an interesting show for me. I had contradictory feelings throughout the show. There were parts that I liked more than the other parts. I liked the sound of their music with a Latin touch, but at the same time, it was not what I expected. I love Salvador Dali’s art, and I was looking forward to hearing it being represented in music. However, I didn’t get that feeling, so I was a bit disappointed. Perhaps my expectations were not realistic.
The program said that other composers previously composed the songs. I had assumed that they had written their own music.
I found the performers to be energetic and I liked the way they interacted with each other. The lady who played viola caught my attention more than the others. She seemed so connected with her instrument and she played it so passionately.
My favorite song was the last one. It closed the show in a right way. I went to the show with my father, and he enjoyed it more than I did. There were not many kids in the audience. I am glad I watched this show. Maybe as I get older, I can appreciate it more, but it was not my favorite performance of the season.
Expectations
The first time I saw Dali’s paintings, I immediately fell in love with his different techniques and his imagination. Whenever I search his paintings on the Web, I just want to sit there and study each image and understand why he painted it. I also love the sounds of string instruments. So I am very eager to see how the musicians of Dali String Quartet are going to paint out his creativity and incredible art using their talent in music. Although I like classical music, I am glad that this performance is not just classical music for string instruments because sometimes I get bored if it is played for more than 10 minutes. I think this show would be entertaining mainly for adults above the age of 50 as well as music and art students and teachers. I am planning to attend the show with my father.
Experience
What a pleasantly elegant performance the Dali String Quartet gave for the supportive audience. It was a bit difficult to focus all the attention on the group at the beginning of the show, but after the intermission and their polite introduction, the pieces they played on their stringed instruments progressed in musical astonishment.
As the two violinists, violist, and cellist put every fiber of their being to gifted use into their plucking and stroking of a bow to produce different notes, you couldn’t help but be drawn into the beautiful, mellow sound and picture the illumination of Dali’s peculiar philosophical paintings. Even when the arousing apparatus continued to intervene and crescendo together only to return back to the ordinary rhythmic volume, the distinguished, melodic songs gently flowed and harmonized through the air. They remained soothing to our eardrums and reached that high quality of class throughout the sophisticated occasion. Marvellous, just marvelous.
Expectations
To honor the inspiration of Spanish surrealist painter, Salvador Dali, the Dali String Quartet was formed. Their purpose is meant to give a classical, Latin-American sound to his striking visual artwork and the graceful Caribbean soul to make his bizarre portraits come alive with music.
This string quartet must create that resonance to give the audience that sense of Surrealism back in the 20s after World War I and the 30s leading to World War II when artists, such as the famous Dali, embraced imagination through artistic propaganda of unexpected juxtapositions to express revolutionary thoughts and feelings. The Dali String Quartet has to interpret the element of surprise with their instrumental pieces just as Dali did with his fascinating images if he is being represented by them. They have to perform a musical sensation of excellence combined with the past time of the era which made public figures and role models like Dali expand and succeed with their bizarre passion and define art in an entirely new way.

I loved the Dali Quartet!
It was indeed a great night of breath-taking classical music with the wonderful pulsating rhythm of Latin soul performed by a top rated quartet. The piece that I enjoyed the most was the last piece: "La Cumparsita," by Uruguayan composer Gerardo Matos Rodríguez. It was incredible! I almost wanted to get up and dance to it. Not surprisingly, the melody kept running through my mind as I drove home and as I am typing this blog. I just loved it.
What I was not expecting, but so thoroughly enjoyed, was watching the performers. They almost seemed to be dancing with their instruments. The second violinist and the violist seemed to move their whole bodies the most as they played; while the first violinist and the cellist were so animated with their facial expressions. It was so intriguing to watch them play. They were so passionate!
Surprisingly, something I thought was curious was the fact that I never saw them tap their feet to keep time, and the way the quartet worked together. With no conductor, they always started together. How did they do that? They did not even count “one, two, three”. They just knew when to start by making eye contact.
Another fascinating thing that I enjoyed was the plucking of the instruments. Not only was it fun to watch, but it gave the music such a different rhythm. I highly recommend attending a Dali Quartet performance.
Expectations
I am so fascinated to hear that the Dali Quartet is coming in February. The Dali Quartet is a group of string players – two violinists, one violist and a cellist. This quartet emphasizes not only its classical roots but a Latin soul as well. Since I love classical music and have a Latin soul, I am anxiously awaiting the lush sounds of the Dali Quartet.
Both my daughter and I watched the preview on the UTB and TSC Arts Center website and we both agreed that this is a performance that we do not want to miss. As we previewed the video, we heard the soothing classical music and we immediately recognized the Latin soul that urges you to get up and tango. Even though my daughter loves the sound of the violin, and I prefer the deep music of the cello, we can each get what we want with this quartet.
I expect this night to be a great night of breath-taking classical music with the wonderful pulsating rhythm of Latin soul performed by a top rated quartet. The performers are highly accomplished in their field and have traveled the world to perform as a quartet. Amazingly, this quartet is coming to Brownsville, TX and will indulge us in its rich sounds. Do not miss it!

This must be the most active group of classical musician I have ever seen! From the beginning, you could see how much they enjoyed performing, as they were highly animated in performing their respective instruments.
While I was expecting to hear some music I had never heard before, it turned out that all but the encore were pieces were unfamiliar to me. This was helpful so that I could learn more what style of music I preferred. They played a good variety of pieces, mainly uptempo pieces from South America, which played well with their animated style.
They did play a couple slower tempo pieces, but they seemed to hold the group back a little too much. They definitely had fun performing, and the audience responded with equal enjoyment.
Expectations
When I think of "the arts", one of the first thing I think of is classical music. What better way to bring classical music to the Valley than a group that highlights classical Latin music? This is what the Dali String Quartet will bring to the Arts Center. I don't know much about classical music, but I know I enjoy listening to multiple harmonies interweaved, which is what good classical music does. I look forward to hearing new performances of familiar pieces and to hear pieces that are new to me. I am interested to hear what a Venezuelan classical music piece varies from music that is more well-known to me.
