UTB Admission Requirements

First-Time Freshmen

Summer 2013

Beginning Fall 2012, there will be new admissions requirements for students wanting to attend UT Brownsville. All applicants must also meet one of the Texas Education Codes, §51.801 - 51.809.

  • Minimum 2.00 GPA on all previous college work; only courses with a "C" or better are eligible for transfer.
  • Be in "GOOD" standing with the last college or university attended.

24 or more transferable semester credit hours

  • Minimum 2.00 GPA on all previous college work; only courses with a "C" or better are eligible for transfer.
  • Be in "GOOD" standing with the last college or university attended.

Note: Students who are currently attending TSC and are seeking to attend UT Brownsville will need to submit an undergraduate admission application for UT Brownsville.

In August of 2011, The University of Texas System Board of Regents took important steps at their meeting to launch the new UTB towards its next evolutionary phase by approving new admissions standards. The university is currently awaiting approval from the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges.
