Q:Do you need to take the act?
A:First time freshman straight out of high school are required to submit either SAT or ACT test scores for review as part of our admissions requirements. The test score will have a specific score as per the students high school class rank. They must also take the NEW TSI exam to determine college readliness.

Q:What test I need to pass in order to be admitted for taking classes at UTB?
A:A prospective student must meet our admission requirements based on their applicant status. For more information go to utb.edu/ec.
First time freshman will have to meet SAT/ACT requirements and submit TSI scores.
Returning students will need to meet TSI Scores.
Transferring students with less than 24 transferrable credit hours will need to submit SAT and/or ACT Scores and TSI scores.
Transferring student with more than 24 credit hours will not need to submit any SAT and/or ACT scores but do need to submit all official transcripts from all institutions they have previously attended. Students must also be in good standing from last attending institution.

Q:Can I take the TSI testing instead of ACT or SAT tests since I have been out of school for 20+ years since they all seem to be some kind of placement test?
A:Depends, below are several scenarios.
If you are a returning student to UT Brownsville than no you would not need SAT or ACT scores. You will need to follow the returning student admissions process.
If you have never attended a university since graduating high school than you will need to submit ACT and/or SAT scores and still take the TSI college readiness test. They are separate test scores.
If you were a UT Brownsville student but transferred to another college or university but would like to return to UT Brownsville you will need to meet our transfer admissions criteria.

Q:I took the placement tests and failed tsi reading with score of 342 and writing with score of 360. Can I still register, or do I have to re-take the tests before registering for fall 2014?

Q:I'm transferring out of UTB, is there a withdrawal process?
A:If you have registered for any classes and/or are attending summer session. You need to visit the Enrollment Center to do a complete Withdrawal from all your courses.
Make sure you have no outstanding balances with our Office of Accounting and Finance. Any pending balances will prevent you from getting an official transcript until your debt is paid.
You may also want to make sure all financial aid documents have been received and you do not have any pending EXIT counseling sessions. This can effect you receiving financial assistance at your new institution until it is completed online.
For one-on-one assistance you can visit the Enrollment Center at The Tower MWF 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and TTH 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
