TRANSFER STUDENTS

Considering coming to UTB/TSC from another college or university? Discover what it means to be a Scorpion and obtain an education in a university that is a world apart from any other school.  Just steps from Mexico, and a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico and the beaches of South Padre Island, UTB/TSC offers a unique, bicultural educational community in an inviting subtropical climate.

No matter where you may have started, when you arrive on campus you are immediately a part of the UTB/TSC community and taking the next step to something extraordinary. 

(Students who have college credit only through dual enrollment classes should follow the process for first-time freshmen.)

Below are the application and registration steps for transfer students:

STEP 1: APPLY FOR ADMISSION

There are several convenient ways to apply for readmission to UTB/TSC. You can apply: online though UTB/TSC’s online admission application or go to ApplyTexas, in person at the Office of Admissions in Tandy 115, or at one of the many GO Center/Info Shops at the following locations:

STEP 2: SUBMIT REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Transcripts
Submit  official transcripts for all colleges and universities attended. Transcripts must be mailed directly from the institution previously attended to the UTB/TSC Admissions Office. Copies of transcripts and faxes are considered unofficial.

Proof of Residency
Submit residency documents to the Office of Admissions. Residency status will affect your tuition rate.  All residency documents must include your name and address, and must be dated 12 months prior to the 1st class day. Examples of proof of residency include:

  • Valid permanent Texas driver’s license or ID card
  • Lease agreement
  • Texas voter registration card
  • Utility bill
  • Texas high school or college transcript
  • Property tax statement or receipt
  • Cancelled check or bank statement 
  • Employer statement indicating dates of employment

NOTE: If you are a naturalized citizen or legal resident alien, please bring you naturalization certificate or resident alien card.
 

·      Texas Success Initiative
Transfer students who are not exempt from the state-required assessment must take one of the state-approved assessment tests, such as COMPASS, THEA, ACCUPLACER or the ASSET Writing Skills Test.  For more information, contact the Testing Office, (956) 882-8875, Tandy 216.

STEP 3: ASK FOR FINANCIAL HELP

Money does not have to be a problem. The Office of Financial Aid can provide tuition assistance in the form of grants, loans and scholarships. Go to the Financial Aid website, call for an appointment with a financial aid advisor at (956) 882-8277, or e-mail financialaid@utb.edu.

STEP 4: MEET WITH AN ADVISOR

Planning your future is no small feat. Choosing the right path at UTB/TSC is essential for your future.  Our academic advisors are committed to engaging students in developing educational, career, and life goals and can assist you in selecting courses appropriate to your program of study.  To schedule an appointment, contact the Academic Advising Center, located in the Camille Lightner Center, at (956) 882-7362.

STEP 5: ATTEND SCORPIONTATION*

Scorpiontation is a two-day immersion into the life and culture of the UTB/TSC campus. There, you will meet student leaders, faculty and staff that will guide you through a detailed tour of campus and provide you with valuable information needed to orient you with becoming a Scorpion.

STEP 6: REGISTER FOR CLASSES

Now you are ready to choose your classes from the many UTB/TSC has to offer. You can register online using Scorpion Online.
