Check Your E-mail Often:

The majority of correspondence from the Financial Aid Office will be sent to the student via e-mail.  It is important that students check their e-mail often for important messages regarding documents missing or information needed clarification in order for the Financial Aid Office to complete the eligibility process.  In addition, important information such as scholarship opportunities, pending deadlines, loan processing and award notifications are sent via e-mail.

E-mail notifications will be sent to the e-mail address provided by the student on the FAFSA application. If a student does not provide an e-mail address in the application, it will be sent to the student's primary e-mail address. The primary e-mail address is the one filed with the Admissions Office. If the primary e-mail is other than one issued by UTB (i.e. Roadrunner, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.), students must ensure that they mark e-mails from UTB as acceptable or safe; otherwise our e-mails to students will be filtered out as unacceptable or they will go into the junk file.

For example, when a student's file is complete, eligibility for financial aid is determined and an award notification is sent to the student via e-mail. An e-mail message is sent to the student's e-mail referring the student to Scorpion Online where he/she can view awards.  On Scorpion Online, students can view awarded programs, amounts awarded and the corresponding semesters.

Students must review program criteria online for each award received and to understand the conditions for the award and for the continuation of this award, if applicable. Program information is available at: http://www.utb.edu/em/fa/Pages/FAHomeAssistancePrograms.aspx).

Average cost of attendance is also available online at: http://www.utb.edu/em/fa/Pages/FACostofAttendance.aspx

Get Ready-Financial Aid is Going Green!!!
Let us show you how to “Go Electronic”

As of January 2008, the U.S. Department of Education will change the following:

  • No more paper Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be provided to institutions
  • No more separate renewal FAFSAs will be provided online; instead the renewal-eligible students will be prompted to use a “pre-filled” online form
  • The Federal Personal Identification Number (PIN) process has been enhanced to issue PINs in real time so that the student or parent can immediately use it to electronically sign the application. Parent must be present to obtain PIN.

This is how the Office of Student Financial Assistance is going to help you go green:

The Financial Aid Quick Stop Lab in Tandy 214 will be open Monday through Thursday from 8am to 6pm and Friday from 8am to 5pm. As a reminder please have the proper documentation, such as your current income tax return, W-2 forms, asset information. Furthermore, bring the proper identifications needed; i.e. Driver’s License and/or Alien Registration Card. We will have support staff available to guide you through the electronic process. You can complete the FAFSA worksheet available at
www.fafsa.ed.gov on your own and have it ready before you come to the lab.
