Program Information: Federal and Texas State college-work study programs are available for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay for their educational expenses. The student earns his/her award in the form of wages while gaining valuable experience in the workforce. The rate of pay varies from institution to institution. At UTB/TSC college work-study participants are paid the minimum hourly rate. Funds in the work-study program are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until funds are exhausted. Once placed in a position, students may work up to 20 hours per week until the awarded amount is earned.
Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirement outlined in the Student Eligibility section, be making satisfactory academic progress and be willing and able to work. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate in the federal and/or state college work-study program. The state work-study program requires applicants to be Texas residents attending a public or non-profit independent college or university in Texas. The state program further requires that students be enrolled at least half-time and not be on an athletic scholarship or enrolled in a seminary or other program leading to ordination or licensure to preach.
Our mission is to provide a more efficient way to access the information required for completing the College Work-Study program. The Financial Aid Office has provided a handbook for students and supervisors to help them clarify any questions that might come up regarding the program. In addition, we are supplying the college work-study vacancies and the College Work-Study Orientation on-line for easier access. Supervisors are now able to print out most forms needed to complete College Work-Study procedures.
Federal Work Study (FWS) is a Title IV program.
