GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS
UTB and TSC General Scholarships are those that are administered by the Financial Aid Office. In addition to merit and/or financial need, many of the UTB and TSC General Scholarships have specific requirements such as classification, major, university and community involvement, career goals or leadership skills. PLEASE READ the General Scholarhip Application instructions carefully and thoroughly before completing the application.
Application Period
Students must apply online between January 2 - March 1 to be considered for any of the General Scholarships. Applications submitted after March 1 will not be accepted.
2013-2014 General Scholarship Application is: CLOSED.
Application Process
Because most scholarships are not renewable, students must reapply each year for scholarships. Incomplete applications will be invalid. Only one application is required to be submitted for all scholarships requiring the General Scholarship Application.
To be considered for any of the UTB and TSC General Scholarships, students must complete the online 2013-2014 UTB General Scholarship Application and submit any required documentation by March 1, 5:00 p.m. cst.
- Incoming freshmen (current high school seniors) are required to submit their official high school transcript to the Office of Admissions immediately after completing the application.
- New Transfer students are required to submit an official transcript of all previous college/universities attended to the Admissions Office.
Official Transcripts should be submitted to:
The University of Texas at Brownsville
Office of Admissions
80 Fort Brown
Brownsville, TX 78520
Selection Process
The UTB and TSC Scholarship Committee is responsible for selecting the scholarship recipients through a competitive process. Members of the committee include faculty, administrators and Student Government Association–appointed students. The number of scholarships awarded varies each year.
Scholarship Notifications
All applicants will be notified via e-mail of the committee's decision during the latter part of the spring semester. Recipients who choose to decline the scholarship must notify the Financial Aid Office via a Financial Aid Cancellation Web Form available online here:
Disbursement of Scholarship Funds
Before disbursing any funds, the Financial Aid Office will ensure that selected recipients continue to meet the requirements of each scholarship awarded. If students are found eligible, scholarship awards are applied directly to the student's university account by the Accounting and Finance Office. If a student becomes ineligible for a scholarship, then the student is denied. Students should check the status of their awards on UTB Online.
Any questions should be emailed to financialaid@utb.edu.
