Master of Education in Educational Technology

Description

The M. Ed. Online program in Educational Technology is a 36 hour Program designed to prepare persons in the K-12, higher education, corporate, and military settings to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for the classrooms of tomorrow. Graduates of this program will have a much better understanding of the uses of technology and how it can be integrated and applied in a classroom or campus setting.

The program focuses on the theory, research and applications related to the field of educational technology and are intended to help educators:

• use instructional technology (computers, telecommunications and related technologies) as resources for the delivery of instruction
• serve as facilitators or directors of instructional technology in educational settings and/or be developers of instructional programs and materials for new technologies
• design instructional materials in a variety of media

The four required courses in the online Master Technology Teacher certificate program fit directly into the online M.Ed. in Educational Technology degree.

Courses

The M.Ed. degree is comprised of 36 hours, consisting of the 8 required courses listed below, plus 12 hours of electives. Students can select the 12 hours of electives based upon their professional needs and academic interests (e.g., 12 hours in a specific content area such as reading, mathematics, science) with advisor approval. Students can either take the Educational Technology Online electives listed below or they can transfer credits from other accredited universities (graduate advisor approval required). PARTICIPATING INSTITUTIONS AND ADVISOR

The Online Educational Technology degree is conferred from University of Texas Brownsville. The program requires that at least 12 hours be taken from the University of Texas at Brownsville. The remaining 24 hours can be taken from other University of Texas institutions that contribute courses toward the program. Those institutions include: UT Austin, UTPB, UTMB, and UTSA. Other UT institutions may contribute courses in the future.
