The Arts Center Campaign Receives Donation from Robles Family
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS –May 12, 2008- Fine arts philanthropists Dr. Roberto and Perla Robles of Brownsville have given a significant gift for The Arts Center under construction at the Universtiy of Texas at Brownsvilel and Texas Southmost College.
At a recent Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees meeting, trustees accepted their gift that will name a chorale teaching studio the “Dr. Roberto and Perla Robles Teaching Studio”.
Robles, a member of the TSC board, recalled a visit he made to Eidman Hall, the current music education building that was originally used for biology classes.
Robles knew the music students were high achievers and they deserved a more appropriate facility.
“Once I saw the building they were in, I knew I would do everything in my power to explain to the public how important and urgent it was to build a proper music teaching facility for the students,” said Robles.
He said the music students, along with the music faculty, have a passion for the arts and music to “fuel a rocket to the stars and back.”
Construction is under way on the $25 million Arts Center behind the Jacob Brown Auditorium. Funded largely as part of a $68 million bond package, a capitol campaign has begun to raise the additional funds.
The 49,887 square-foot structure will feature an 808 seat performance hall with a fully equipped stage designed to accommodate orchestras, operas, and dance and theater productions accommodating 150 people on stage simultaneously.
