IBC Makes Donation to The Arts Center Campaign
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – June 2, 2008 – International Bank of Commerce has made a significant gift to the capital campaign of The Arts Center at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College.
At a recent Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees meeting, board members accepted IBC’s gift that will name the orchestra pit on behalf of IBC Bank.
Al Villareal, senior vice president for IBC and a member of the IBC Board of Directors, represented Fred W. Rusteberg, president and chief executive officer of IBC Brownsville.
“Mr. Rusteberg and the board of directors are very proud to be part of this wonderful project,” Villarreal said. “This is a first-class facility and our students deserve such a facility. It provides continuing evidence that UTB/TSC is a premier institution that everybody should support.”
Designed to accommodate 24 musicians and their instruments, the IBC Orchestra Pit will be 28 feet by 11 feet. It will be accessible by stairs and the lobby elevator.
Long a supporter of education and the community, IBC established the Fred & Frances Rusteberg Scholarship Endowment in July 2001 to benefit students in the UTB/TSC School of Business.
Rusteberg is a founding member of the UTB Development Board and past board chair. Under his leadership, employees of IBC who want to complete their education are encouraged to compete for the IBC Employees Scholarship Fund at UTB/TSC.
Construction is under way on the $25 million Arts Center behind the Jacob Brown Auditorium. Funded largely as part of a $68 million bond package, a capitol campaign has begun to raise the additional funds.
This spring the university received two significant contributions towards the campaign. Gloria and James D. Zellerbach made a gift for The Arts Center Green Room and one of The Arts Center Teaching Studios will bear the name of Perla and Dr. Roberto Robles.
The 49,887 square-foot structure will feature an 808-seat performance hall with a fully equipped stage designed to accommodate orchestras, operas, dance and theater productions with as many as 150 people on stage simultaneously.
