UTB/TSC Students Competed for Miss Texas USA Title
LAREDO, TX- JUNE 30, 2008- Two students from the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southm
ost College competed for the coveted title of Miss Texas USA on Sunday, June 29, in Laredo.
Leslie Olivares, a senior communication major and Valarie Pardo, a junior education major vied for the crown against 110 other contestants. 
“I love the stage, especially performing, and being in front of people, the stage is my home,” said Olivares, Miss Cameron County.
Although neither Pardo nor Olivares made the semi-finals, where the top 15 contestants were selected, both agree that they have memories to last a lifetime.
“The pageant was such a great opportunity, and I was very honored and excited to compete,” said Pardo, Miss Brownsville.
The winner of the 2009 Miss Texas USA was Miss Harris County, Brooke Daniels, she received a prize package, and the chance to compete for Miss USA.
