MyEdu Aids Students in Academic and Career Goals
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – MARCH 19, 2013 – MyEdu, an online student platform for planning and completing college, was rolled out by The University of Texas at Brownsville in late February.
This online tool assists students in designing desirable class schedules, developing a personal education plan, tracking assignments and calculating grade point averages (GPA).
Karen Holst, VP of Institutional Development for MyEdu, worked with faculty members to familiarize them with the new product.
“MyEdu will help students follow their academic and career paths and achieve their goals and dreams,” said Dr. Ruth Ann Ragland, Associate Provost for Community Outreach and Special Projects.
Since its kick off in 2011, MyEdu has been engaged by numerous colleges and universities throughout the country, including The University of Texas System. Most recently, the program has been enhanced to include the MyEdu student profile and MyEdu for employers.

The new MyEdu Student Profile is a vehicle for students to display their skills and experience. The profile allows students to visually present their classes, projects, internships and the talents and passions that make each student unique.
The student profile can be tailored to highlight personal experiences such as group projects, language skills, military service, certifications, and community service and work history.
“Students have repeatedly told us that they are not well-served by the traditional resume or most professional networking sites,” said Frank Lyman, Senior Vice President of Products and Marketing at MyEdu. “It takes more than reading a list of historical jobs to truly understand what a student or young professional is capable of.”
MyEdu assists employers in their hiring process and when selecting interns. The online the portal extends their reach across campuses, connecting with students and building relationships with potential job candidates.
Employers can target job postings and identify candidates using specific criteria such as school, major, graduation year, courses taken, work and extracurricular activities. They will be able to identify students with unique experiences and passions outside the classroom.
Employers will also be able to interact directly with students and mentor those who seek advice on courses, skills and activities that will prepare them for their chosen career.
Members of the UTB faculty have been engaged in a training workshop to learn about the facets of MyEdu and ways they can use the tool to assist students in making course selections. Also, UTB faculty members are participating in a Beta project to improve the tool.
