UT Chancellor Clarifies UTB-TSC Separation on Brownsville Visit

Chancellor Visits UTB BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – April 4, 2012 – Dr. Francisco G. Cigarroa, Chancellor of The University of Texas System, visited the campus of The University of Texas at Brownville and Texas Southmost College to meet with community leaders on Tuesday, April 3.

Accompanied by Dr. Juliet V. García, UTB President, Cigarroa attended an editorial board meeting with The Brownsville Herald to discuss the steps that are being taken to successfully create two separate institutions out of the UTB and TSC partnership of the past 20 years.

The UT System shared a separation timeline with the newspaper, delineating the dates by which key mileposts must be reached in order to effect an orderly transition according to state of Texas legislative and educational mandates.

Key points regarding future actions in the UTB-TSC separation were also discussed at the meeting. These include operational separation and accreditation, faculty and staff, facilities and state appropriations.
