Message from the Provost: Internet Explorer Major Security Flaw

April 28, 2014

Microsoft has announced the discovery of a major security flaw affecting Internet Explorer Versions 6 through 11.  Please review this article for more information.

It is highly recommended that an alternative browser such a Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome be utilized until Microsoft provides an update to repair the security flaw. Click here to download Firefox or Chrome.

Since the update is not yet available, ITS is unable to provide a description or number for it, but as more information is obtained we will be sure provide it to the user community.

Additionally, as stated in the above article, Windows XP computers are especially vulnerable. This operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft and therefore is not receiving critical updates. If you are working on a Windows XP computer, please submit a Spiceworks ticket to have the computer upgraded to Windows 7.
