Responsibilities:
The VPR reports to the Provost of the university and is responsible for the advancement of UTB/TSC through expanding and supporting university research programs by promoting the research, scholarly, creative and collaborative activities of faculty, staff and students; encouraging national and international partnerships for research development, research workforce training and commercialization of research endeavors; enhancing the research infrastructure of the University to support our South Texas community in an ever-changing no boundaries world; and providing a research environment for timely production of graduate degrees through an educational experience of national and international excellence. The VPR provides the oversight, expertise and guidance for all of the various research activities throughout the university and supervises the Office of Sponsored Programs, Development Research Associates, Research Integrity and Compliance and the Office of Technology Transfer in partnership with other three UT institutions (UTSA, UTPA, UTHSCSA).
Previous Positions and Where:
Dr. Colom previously served as Professor and Chair in the Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College. Prior to Joining UTB/TSC he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology, Faculty Associate in the Huffington Center on Aging and Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Huston Texas. He concurrently serves as Chairman in the Department of Biological Sciences and Director of the Center for Biomedical Studies at UTB/TSC.
