UTB chess teams stumble at PAICC in Matchup of unbeatens
MILWAUKEE, WI, December 29, 2010
The top four teams after three rounds in the 2010
Pan American Intercollegiate Chess Championships -- including both UTB
teams -- met Wednesday morning and afternoon.
UTB "A" team lost a close match to The University of Texas at Dallas,
2.5-1.5. The "B" team lost to University of Maryland, Baltimore County
"A" Team, 4-0.
After three rounds, there was a four-way tie for first place with 3-0
records. Both UTB teams, The University of Texas at Dallas, and The
University of Maryland, Baltimore County were all tied at the halfway
point of the tournament.
The tournament began Monday. Each team will play six rounds, with the final round scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30.
The results for Round 4 were:
UTB "A" team (2612 average rating) lost to University of Texas at Dallas "A" (2552), 2.5-1.5.

#1 Board: IM Alfonso Almeida lost to Leonid Kritz
#2 Board: WGM-Elect Nadya Ortiz lost to Sergey Erenburg
#3 Board: WIM Luciana Morales lost to Gi Margvelashvili
#4 Board: Arturo Gracia Jr. lost to Sasha Kaplan
Pairings for Round 5 will be announced Wednesday afternoon, just prior to the start of play at 5 p.m.
