2012 Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship
Dec 27-30, 2012 Princeton University - Princeton, New Jersey.
Congratulations to our UTB and TSC Chess Team for their hard-fought games at the 2012 Pan American Chess Championships. Thanks to their efforts, UTB and TSC was the 5th placed university out of the 30 universities represented at the competition.
The UTB and TSC "A" Team finished a hard-fought 6th place amongst the 44 teams representing the 30 universities at the competition. The UTB and TSC "B" Team placed 18th out of the 44 teams.
Grandmaster Axel Bachmann won the prize for Top Board 2 with 5.5 game points out of a possible 6.
The two teams that competed are:
“A” Team consisting of: #1 Mauricio Flores, #2 Axel Bachmann, #3 Max Cornejo, and #4 Katerina Nemcova.
“B” Team consisting of: #1 Aura Salazar, #2 Luciana Morales, #3 Daniela De la Parra, #4 Jeffrey Serna, and Alternate Armando Cortez.
This tournament determined the collegiate championship for the Western Hemisphere. This was also the qualifying tournament for the 2013 President’s Cup, known as the Final Four of College Chess. The University of Texas at Dallas, Webster University, University of Maryland Balimore County and the University of Illinois qualified for the Final Four.
