Daniela De la Parra Wins 2013 Campeonato PanAmericano Universitario
UTB Chess Team member Daniela De la Parra traveled to her hometown of Durango, Mexico, to represent our university at the 2013 PanAmerican University Chess Championships. This prestigious tournament is a Confederación De Ajedrez Para America event where students represent their university instead of their home country. The tournament was held in Durango, Durango, Mexico, from November 22-27, 2013.
Woman International Master Daniela De la Parra is a junior at UTB with a double major in Accounting and Finance. She was the only one of the 30 participants representing a U.S. university. Although the men and women played each other during the tournament, they were separated by gender for the purpose of the awards. Daniela won the gold medal as the top female player with 5.5 out of a possible 9 points. Most of the players in the tournament represented Mexican universities, but there were also strong players representing universities from Cuba, Costa Rica, The United States, and El Salvador. Congratulations to Daniela for bringing home the gold to UTB!
