UTB Defeats Washington University and UT Dallas in Second Round Matches

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – December 28, 2011 - The UTB "A" and "B" teams both won their second round matches at the 2011 Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championships.

With all four players winning their matches, the UTB "A" Team defeated Washington University “A” Team 4 to 0. The UTB "A" team now has 2 points after 2 rounds.

The team consisted of-

#1 Board: GM Timur Gareyev

#2 Board: GM Mauricio Flores

#3 Board: GM Axel Bachmann

#4 Board: IM Max Cornejo

The UTB "B" Team defeated UT Dallas "C" Team 2.5 to 1.5. WGM Nadya Ortiz and WIM Luciana Morales both won their games, WGM Katerina Nemcova drew her game, and IM Alfonso Almeida lost. The UTB "B" Team also has 2 points after 2 rounds.

The team consisted of-

#1 Board: IM Alfonso Almeda

#2 Board: WGM Katerina Nemcova

#3 Board: WGM Nadya Ortiz

#4 Board: WIM Luciana Morales

Round 3 will begin at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28.

The top four finishers will qualify for the 2012 President’s Cup, known as the Final Four of College Chess to be held March 31 – April 1, 2012, in Herndon, Virginia, outside of Washington, D.C.
